Junior High- Mrs. Mathias

GRADE 6- MATH

Happy Fall

Both the 6th grade and 7th grade classes have been working extremely hard.

The 6th grade class just finished up a unit on Decimals and will be starting their unit project.  Each student will be going on a "pretend" Shopping Spree.  They will be using their skills with decimals to buy items within a budget.

The 7th grade class just finished up a unit on Percents and have just started a unit on Integers.  They know a great song on adding integers if you are looking for something to sing around a campfire on a cool Fall night:)

Both classes also had their first auction of the school year.  It was a lot of fun to see how much money they were willing to spend to buy their favorite candy or gift card!

A few dates to remember:  October 30th--Report Cards go home.

October 31st--1:45 Dismissal. Parade starts at 1:15

                                                        November 10th--No School. Veteran's Day

                                                        November 20th--Conferences 5:00 p.m- 8:00 p.m.

                                                        November 21st--Conferences 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

                                                        November 21-26--No School. Thanksgiving Vacation.

WELCOME BACK

I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. For those of you, who do not know me, my name is Sue Mathias. This will be my 32nd – and final – year here at Taft. I will be retiring at the end of this year.

Since joining the Taft faculty in January, 1985, I have taught 2nd grade (student-taught under the direction of Mrs. Geibel many, many years ago), 3rd grade, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Mathematics and 5th and 6th grade Reading.

I graduated from Lewis University, with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education along with a concentration in the area of Mathematics.

On the personal side, I have been married for 27 wonderful years to my husband, Larry. We have a beautiful and amazing daughter, Julie who is in her final year at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.  We also have a 4-legged member of our family: a cute, soft coated Wheaton terrier named Bailey. In my spare time, I love to travel. My husband, daughter, and I have traveled and visited nearly every one of the 50 states along with Puerto Rico, Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada and parts of Europe.

I am passionate about helping my students reach their full potential. Parents and students can feel free to email me at any time, and I will return your email as quickly as possible.

I look forward to a fantastic school year!
