Junior High- Mr. Zoeterman

Greetings to my new Taft family. My name is George Zoeterman, and I am a new Social Studies and Language Arts teacher here at Taft. Specifically, I have an 8th grade homeroom, and teach one block of 8th grade LA, both sections of 8th grade Social Studies, and both sections of 6th grade Social Studies. I am a very passionate writer and reader of all things Social Studies related (and most other subjects), so am very excited to have the opportunity to share those passions with the students.

My background is varied. I spent 20+ years in the business world, most of those as a self-employed glazing contractor, but in 1999, I got the opportunity to coach middle-school basketball, and it was there that I first began to feel the calling to the classroom. It took some time, but in 2014 I was able to complete all the necessary steps of certification, and was fortunate to find work in a private school. I immensely enjoyed my three years there, but declining enrollment put me back on the job market, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to come to Taft, and positively affect our next generations and future leaders.

On a personal note, I have been married to my wife Jane for 31 years. Jane is also a teacher, and really influenced my desire to follow her into that profession. I have three children, Becky, Tim, and Chris, who are all in their twenties, and all have gainful employment (of course, two of them are still at home!). I reside in Tinley Park, and am very active in my church. I love reading and sports, and love having the opportunity to share my passions in an educational environment.

My initial impression of Taft School is awesome. I love the small town feel that the school has, as well as the feeling of “family” between staff and parents and students. The kids were great on the first day, and I look forward to getting to know as many of you as I possibly can. Please be patient if the names take me some time: I’m not as young as I used to be! Feel free to contact me as needed, and be sure to introduce yourself to me when the opportunity arises. Thanks in advance for your support. I look forward to a great year of partnering in the education of the Taft students.
