Taft School Board
Below are the members of the Taft School District
90 Board of Education.
Brenda Gehrig, President [2011]
Hi, my name is Brenda Gehrig. My husband,
Paul, and I are residents of Lockport, Illinois, School District 90. I am a stay-at-home mom to my two beautiful children, Samantha and Paul Gehrig
who both graduated from Taft. I attended Lemont Central through eighth grade and Lemont High School through twelfth grade.
I was a member of C.A.R.E. (Citizens Against Ruining the Environment) to stop the incinerator from coming to Lockport. We were successful in doing so.
I ran for the Taft School Board because I thought I would be an asset to the school, the students, and the district as a whole. I am very proud to be on the school board and to be a part of the decision making process. Thank you to all the voters that came out to vote that day.

Jan Geibel, Vice President [2011]
Following the April, 2003 election, I was seated as a new board member on the Taft School Board of Education.
I retired as a teacher for Taft School in June of 2002 after a long and rewarding career in the classroom.
Taft School has been an important part of my life. My husband, Henry, and I came to Lockport following our marriage. I taught for two years in District 91 before the birth of our first child, David.
I began my career at Taft in the 1967 school year. We moved to the district and rented a house owned by the school at 213 East 16th Street.
Before the birth of our second son, Stephen, we purchased our present home on Sisson Street. Both of our children graduated from Taft. Presently our granddaughter
and grandson attend Taft.
Through the years, I was active in PTA, Band Parents, and the Washington, D.C. trip group. I served on the Leadership Team, textbook committees, the School Improvement Team, the Internal Review Committee, served as a union officer, and Assistant to the Superintendent. I was also a supervising teacher for several student teachers. As you can see, the Geibel link to Taft School is a long and strong one.
I enjoy my family, crafts, travel, shopping, and Porter Basketball.
I promise to work hard to see that the children of District 90 receive the best education that can be provided while acting in a financially responsible way for the taxpayers of the community.
Call me if you have concerns or questions. I promise to be a listening ear.
Gina Krawczyk,
Secretary [2013]
My husband, Bill, and I have lived in the
Taft community for ten years. We have two children, Billy,
currently in the 5th grade, and Rachel, currently in 2nd grade. I grew up in Palos Park, Illinois and attended Palos School District 118 for grammar school. I graduated from Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois in 1989.
I was re-elected in the April, 2009 election to serve on the Board. I am proud to be part of the decision making process and to ensure the growth and development of Taft School. I will work hard to see that District 90 strives in its educational process.
Marcia Hopper, Member
[2011] My husband, Spencer, and I were married and moved to Lockport in 1993. We have lived in the Taft School District for the past seven years. Spencer is a General Foreman for a telecommunications company and I am currently a stay at home mom. Before we had children, I worked in retail management, most recently at the Symphony Store for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I really enjoyed working downtown but felt that it would be best to stay home with my children while they were young.
I decided to run for the school board in 2007 because I wanted to take an active role in my children’s education.
In the 2008-2009 school year, my daughter, Aubrey, will be in
the third grade and my son, David, will be starting
Kindergarten. I am very excited to be part of the decision making process here at Taft and I promise to always take into consideration the needs of the school and the community. I truly believe that because we are such a small school district, we have a very unique opportunity to provide an exceptional education for all the children in the Taft
community.
