Dear Viking families,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year.  We have been preparing all summer for the return of students and staff in August.  There are several new and updated exciting items and/or improvements that I am very pleased to share with you.  They include:


  • 09 hallways and classroom landing areas painted

  • Auditorium has begun to be painted

  • Additional 10 lockers were installed for junior high students

  • Music room has had many upgrades

  • New circulation desk in the library

  • Swing set painted

  • Playground landscaping upgraded

  • Science room has storage cabinets installed

  • Kindergarten and grade 1 have IPADS with charging carts

  • Physical Education classes will utilize cardio heart rate monitors

  • Electronic scan cards are utilized for school lunch purchases

  • Upgraded lost and found display

  • Structured instructional class period for junior high students, including a computer class.

  • Variety of  furniture items placed in elementary classrooms

  • Taft website


In addition to the many new upgrades to Taft; I am also very pleased and proud to welcome the “new” faces to the Viking staff.  They include:

  • Mr. Jared Reardon, Assistant Principal

  • Mrs. Pari McFarland-Smith, Multi Media Specialist and Grade 8 ELA

  • Mrs. Laura Valentine, Science

  • Mr. George Zoeterman, Grade 6/8 ELA and Social Studies


Planning ahead for a fabulous fall of 2017, listed below are a few dates for your calendar:

  • Monday, September 11:  PTA Spirit Week begins

  • Tuesday, September 12:  Curriculum Night

  • Friday, September 15:  PTA Walk-A-Thon

  • Saturday, September 23:  Taft Foundation Golf Outing

  • Friday, October 6:  Fall Picture Day

  • Friday, October 6:  11:30 dismissal for students in grades 1-8.

Finally, in an effort to support the safety and well-being of all students and staff, today (August 25), the building practiced all of our safety drills (fire, severe weather and unsafe situation) under the observance of the Lockport Police Department.
