President William Howard Taft Taft Grade School District 90 in Lockport, Illinois, was named in honor of William Howard Taft -- the 27th President of the United States (1909-1913) and the 10th Chief Justice of the United States (1921-30). He was born on September 15, 1857 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and died on March 8, 1930 at the age of 72. President Taft was credited with improving the economy and helping to build the government of the Philippines during his term.
